Ticino

Ticino is Switzerland's southernmost canton on the border of Italy.

No visit to Switzerland would be complete without spending time in Ticino .The city of Locarno hosts Switzerland's most prestigious film festival.Lake Maggiore and Lake Como.

We arrived at Bellinzona on the 15th April 2006. After freshening up, we took a bus to Olivone.
from Olivone we decided to walk and look around. It was a rainy day, so wasn't really feeling great to walk around.
After going around for abot 20-30 mts, we took the bus to a nearby mountain. It was evening by the time we reached the place, I dont have any idea what the name of the place was.There was nothing much to see there.Just the usual snow covered peaks.Most of the time it was covered in fog. We went to a restaurant near the bustop,it was the only one in sight. Spent some time taking photos and took the next bus to bellinzona.

Our visit to bellizona was not actually on the list, but since we were not able to get hotels in Locarno, we stayed here and the next day we spent in Locarno.

Did You Know?

Luzern - lucerne

Lucerne is a capital city of the canton of Lucerne. It is situated in the northern part of Swiss. The city is situated on a lake by the same name. The lucern railway station is very close to the lake.
Mt Pilates and Mt Rigi are some of the favorite destinations from here. We took the cruise ship from lake lucerne close to the culture and convention center and arrived at Vitznau. From Vitznau we took the mountain cog wheel train to Mt Rigi. Alternatively you can take the cable car from weggis to Mt rigi. Mt Rigi is also called the "Queen of the mountains".
The view from Mt Rigi was amazing as usual.

While coming down we took the cable car to weggis. Weggis is a beautiful place,It lies facing lake lucerne.It looked like a postcard with the beautiful wooden houses ,tulips , flowering trees and grazing cows .

Jungfrau Park or Mystery park

April 13th 2006.

Jungfrau Park is an amusement park located near Interlaken. It was earlier called Mystery Park when it opened in 2003.

It has some 7 pavilions , each with a different theme. One of them was on India. So we were super happy.We spent some 4-5 hours in the park.Can't remember much of it, but there was something egyptian,  mayan and something on space, also a laser show. There was also 1-2 resturants inside the park.

Evolene

Trip to Evolene

Evolene is situated in Valais canton,its a small mountain village.

Started from basel early morning, changed trains at Bern. Took the train to Scion.
The next morning we took the bus to Evolene.From Sion its a drive up the mountain to Evolene.The views were absolutely stunning..

Beaten berg - Neiderhorn

Beatenberg is located in the Bernese Oberland beneath the Niederhorn.Its part of the Bern canton. Cantons are like states.Switzerland has got about 26 cantons. Bern is located in the west-central part of switzerland and Beatenberg is in the southern part of Bern.With lake thun on one side and lake brienz on the other.

The town is principally a base from which to explore the surrounding areas. Among the main attractions are the mountains of the Jungfrau region. Mountain railways gives access to the Jungfraujoch.

Jungfrau Park, an amusement park, is situated just to the south of interlaken.This was earlier called the "Mystery park".

We took the train from Basel and arrived at Interlaken west. After spending some time roaming around and shopping ,we took a bus to beatenberg from interlaken .the views were amazing while going up the mountain. After arriving at Beatenberg , we took the cable car. Cable cars and gondolas take you up to Neiderhorn. Many people were skiing and paragliding.We were not prepared for any of those as it was our first time in a snow covered place.We were too excited to see just snow itself.Would like to do it all someday.
